BearingMAP thermal detectors clamped to mainline rail on a hillside
Wayside thermal detection

BearingMAP

Hot bearing and hot wheel detection in one rail clamped unit, with no equipment bungalow.

Max speed
Up to 200 km/h (125 mph)
Key measurement range
0 to 815 °C (32 to 1,500 °F)
Power
Under 2 kW peak
What it detects

Two failure modes, one detector

An overheating journal bearing and an overheating wheel are separate problems with separate thresholds. BearingMAP measures both on every axle of every passing train and sends the readings straight to DataMAP.

Multibeam infrared beams from a rail-clamped BearingMAP unit aimed at a passing journal bearing and wheel
01

Bearing temperature monitoring

Journal bearing temperature from 0 to 350 °C, read on every axle that passes the site.

02

Wheel temperature monitoring

Wheel temperature from 0 to 815 °C on two dedicated beams, identifying dragging, stuck and ineffective brakes.

03

Multibeam coverage

Providing confidence, fidelity and redundancy of what matters during every pass.

04

Accuracy at operating speeds

Superior data quality and accuracy captured at virtually all operating speeds.

Outcomes

Operational Benefits

Earlier defect identification

Thermal readings on bearings and wheels catch faults before they escalate in severity.

Actionable real-time alerts

'Talker' radio announcements provide train crews with immediate notification of the most severe conditions.

Greater inspection coverage

DataMAP provides measurements, trends and alarms for your network of wayside systems.

Improved asset availability

A keep clean air purge protects the optics, so site visits stay planned rather than reactive.

Every BearingMAP reading lands in DataMAP, the application every Infravis system reports into.
